    An Invitation

The Wind Once Whispered is an invitation to slow down, to listen, and to remember what carries us through the hardest chapters of life.

We welcome individuals, organizations, and communities who believe in the power of art, story, and shared humanity to join us in bringing this project to life. The Wind Once Whispered Project

Vision Brief for Supporters and Funders

Project Vision | The Wind Once Whispered Project is an international collaborative art and storytelling initiative exploring grief, resilience, and hope through film, poetry, painting, and community participation. Created by Johan Swinnen and Pamela Hoke, the project invites audiences to engage with themes of healing and renewal through creative expression and connection with nature. The project combines artistic storytelling with participatory experiences that encourage individuals and communities to process shared challenges through reflection and creativity.

    Why This Project Matters Now

Around the world, communities are navigating increasing levels of:

    • mental health stress
    • grief and loss
    • environmental anxiety
    • social and political uncertainty

Throughout history, the arts have played a vital role in helping societies process these moments of change.

The Wind Once Whispered Project offers a creative response by creating spaces where people can reflect, reconnect, and rediscover resilience through art and storytelling.

    Core Project Components

    Film

A poetic cinematic journey exploring grief, transformation, and hope. The film serves as the emotional anchor of the project and will be presented through screenings accompanied by discussion and creative engagement.

    Book and Journal

Two editions are being developed: Dutch edition, Poetry and photography from the film., English edition Designed by Pamela Hoke combining:

    • Johan’s poetic narrative
    • film imagery
    • original paintings

A companion reflection journal will provide prompts and creative exercises to help readers engage with the themes explored in the film and book.

    Painting Series

A series of original paintings by Pamela Hoke responding visually to the emotional journey expressed in the poem and film.

These works will be presented through exhibitions and reproduced as prints to support the project’s outreach.

    Community Engagement

    Messages to the Wind

Inspired by Johan’s original kite journey, the project invites individuals around the world to share their own messages of hope, remembrance, and resilience.

Participants write messages that are symbolically released into the wind on ribbons attached to kites.

This participatory ritual transforms the project from a narrative into a shared community experience.

    Public Programs

    Messages to the Wind ArtVentures

Community events designed to combine creative expression with reflection.

Programs may include: Film screenings, Art exhibitions, Guided journaling sessions, Community kite gatherings, Painting workshops, Storytelling circles. These events encourage participants to explore themes of healing and connection through creativity.

    Organizational Structure

The project is supported through collaboration between: A nonprofit initiative in Belgium led by Johan Swinnen and Natural Brand Studios, a Washington-based creative strategy and storytelling organization founded by Pamela Hoke. Together these organizations provide the project with both artistic leadership and strategic development capacity.

    Opportunities for Support

Funding will support: Publication of the English edition of the book and journal, Production and exhibition of the painting series, Film screenings and public programs, Community engagement initiatives, Development of educational and creative resources. The Wind Once Whispered

A story of endurance, connection, and what carries us through

In a time when the world feels increasingly fractured by illness, grief, uncertainty, and collective exhaustion. The Wind Once Whispered offers a quiet but powerful reminder: we are not meant to walk hard journeys alone.

This international collaboration brings together film, poetry, fine art, and lived experience to explore how humans endure life’s most difficult passages and how creativity, movement, and shared reflection help us heal.

Born from a father’s response to his child’s cancer diagnosis and carried forward by a cancer survivor’s creative vision, The Wind Once Whispered is both deeply personal and universally human.
